I came across this app by chance yesterday and it’s one of the most powerful things I’ve found in a long time.

Research has proven that by recording small daily gratitudes, you naturally become happier as you begin to focus on happy things.

This is due in part to the reticular activating system – this video will explain the science bit, but in essence if you focus on happiness you will become happier and become more aware of being happy- sounds extremely obvious and basic, but it works.

Studies have also proven that happiness is in fact contagious and by sharing your happy moments- however small they may be – you encourage others to be happier.

Gratitude is a big part of achieving happiness but it’s power is often overlooked due to the misconception that being grateful for small things each day is somehow irrelevant.

That couldn’t be farther from the truth and for me, taking the time to document these happy moments feels very nourishing as I am actually spending time on my happiness.

Once you begin to focus on being grateful for ‘the small things’ you become happier, which in turn makes you feel more connected with your everyday life.

You begin to act happier and inspire those around you to be happy- it’s a truly wonderful concept.

I think the refreshing part of using this app is recognising that happiness isn’t untold riches, fabulous beauty and extensive world travel- it can be as simple as a sunset, a cup of coffee, or time with a friend.

By seeing what makes other Happier users happy you re-align your expectations for happiness and make it a more accessible every day pursuit.

The style and tone of this app are both welcoming and encouraging- you can see what is making other happier users happy in real-time (which is time better spent than trawling Facebook or news websites….) and the app will even remind you each day to consider and document your 3 happy moments.

For me, this concept works because it reinforces the idea that happiness is the journey and not the destination- it also is a lot easier and fun than remembering to keep a gratitude journal.
