Walking improves creativity

All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking.

I’m a big fan of walking, although I don’t walk as much as I should or as much as my wife would like.

I certainly until now didn’t appreciate the power of walking.

Sure, I always feel more peaceful, centred and with a clear mind after a walk-  so it’s no surprise that Stanford university have carried out research which concludes walking is good for your mind- it’s the fact it benefits creative thinking in paritcular which is fascinating.

The most compelling finding for me, has to be

A person walking indoors – on a treadmill in a room facing a blank wall – or walking outdoors in the fresh air produced twice as many creative responses compared to a person sitting down, one of the experiments found.

So it’s not even about getting some fresh air and getting out there, it’s simply the physical act of walking which helps to stimulate your creative thinking.

If you’re feeling stuck and are in need of some inspiration, why not take a short break, head out for a walk and see if it gets you back on track with some fresh thinking 🙂
