6Seconds is about emotional intelligence- but what is emotional intelligence (EQ)?
Emotional intelligence is the ability to monitor one’s own and other people’s emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behaviour
Much of the world’s problems- from conflict to discrimination and hatred (all of which are fed to us daily via the news- which you should consider giving up) are based on incongruence between our emotions, the emotions of others, and the perception of both.
6Seconds exists to help us use our emotional intelligence- through their “know yourself, choose yourself, give yourself” concept.
1. Tune in. Notice your feelings and reactions. Get off autopilot. We call this step Know Yourself
2. Respond. Instead of reacting, give yourself a moment to de-escalate and evaluate options. This is called Choose Yourself
3. Connect. Remember what’s truly important to you, consider others, and then move forward with those in mind. This is Give Yourself
